How many bundles do you need? A South African buyer's guide

It's the question everyone asks and almost no seller answers honestly: how many bundles do you actually need? Order too few and your install looks thin and short; order too many and you've wasted money. Here's the real rule of thumb, then a calculator that does it for you.

The short answer

• Up to 14": 2 bundles is usually enough for a full head.
• 16"–20": 3 bundles — the most common full install.
• 22" and longer: 3–4 bundles, because longer wefts spread thinner.
• Using a 13×4 frontal? You can often go one bundle fewer — it covers the whole front.
• Want it extra full or dramatic? Add one bundle to any of the above.

What actually changes the number

• Length — the biggest factor. Long hair needs more wefts to stay thick to the ends.
• Install type — a frontal covers the front hairline, so you need fewer bundles behind it than with a closure.
• Fullness — a natural look versus a dramatic, voluminous one is often a whole bundle apart.
• Texture — curly and deep-wave patterns read fuller, but you may still size up in length (see our length guide).

Don't under-order — buy the same batch

Always buy your bundles (and closure or frontal) from the same batch at the same time. Dye lots and textures vary slightly between orders, and matching them later is the #1 reason installs look 'off'. If in doubt, one extra bundle you keep for next time beats a patchy install today.
